Perspective in Trials

…Perspective is often God’s gift to his children when they are called to enter the valley of the shadow of death. In other words, the trials God ordains for us are rarely as bad as we initially make them out to be…. Perspective reminds us that God will never ordain something for us that He will not enable us to persevere through (1 Corinthians 10:13). Perspective reminds us that we are quick to worry and slow to trust (Philippians 4:6-7), and that this difficulty will better equip us to minister to those who will face this same trial in the future (2 Corinthians 1:4-10) ….Perspective, though, is not due to our infinite knowledge or wisdom; it’s a gift of God’s grace that enables us to supernaturally reorient our focus (“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man”). Through it, God graciously turns our attention from ourselves and the trial itself to His sweet, enlightening, and comforting words (Psalm 19:7-11). Pray for strength, grace … and God’s perspective!

Psalm 40:4-5 (ESV), “Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie! You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wonderful deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.”
