Can you help me understand or direct me to resources to explain how King James that had the Bible translated could be the same King James that persecuted the separatist? Warmly, Kari
King James agreed to a new translation in order to displace the popular Geneva Bible. He hated the notes which were in every Geneva Bible — notes which argued against the divine right of kings. After the ‘King James’ translation was finished, it was made illegal in England to print the Geneva Bible. Still, it took a hundred years before the ‘legal’ King James would displace the popularity of the ‘illegal’ Geneva Bible.
Pastor Mike Hoggard is the first pastor/teacher to ever help me to understand “why KJV?” He is very thorough in his studies and he is also a very good speaker. 🙂
