I have enjoyed reading your book Teaching the Trivium: Christian Homeschooling in a Classical Style. I am wondering what course of study you might suggest for a close-to-50-year-old adult interested in “re-educating” herself using Christian classical education. I would appreciate any thoughts you might have on this. Mrs. K. G.

Here are just a few suggestions:

Read more — fiction and non-fiction (our Hand That Rocks the Cradle might be helpful in finding the fiction) and learn to outline the non-fiction you are reading — find someone to read aloud to.

Pick a foreign language to study — it doesn’t have to be a classical language.

The TV/video/computer screen habit is a hard one to conquer and it interferes with a person’s education — try to limit it.

Pick a subject to study, something that really interests you but that you’ve never had time for (rocks, astronomy, geometry, advanced biology, gardening, etc) — after you learn it, teach it to someone else.

Start a study of logic — our Fallacy Detective is a good place to start.

Write something every day (one page) — take a course in writing if you’re unsure of yourself.
